Branford built their lead a few runs at a time in a 7-0 victory over Wilbur Cross Varsity Governors on Saturday.
Branford got on the board in the second inning after Silas Comen grounded out, scoring one run.
A single by Chris Mckittrick extended the Branford lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
#34 earned the win for Branford. The hurler surrendered one hit and zero runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking five. Janiel Montero took the loss for Wilbur Cross Varsity Governors. The southpaw went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on eight hits, striking out two and walking four.
Zavion Mcrea went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Wilbur Cross Varsity Governors in hits.
Comen led Branford with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Number seven hitter, Noah Stewart, showed the depth of Branford’s lineup, by leading them with two hits in three at bats. Branford had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Nate Lipo and Benicio Lynk led the team with two free passes each. Mckittrick stole two bases. Branford turned one double play in the game. Branford were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Mckittrick made the most plays with 10.
